Many years ago, shortly after completing my degree in Economics, I took that logical step and became a photographer's assistant to some of Canada's top fashion photographers.
I was hired by a main catalogue photographer due to my finance background. I became an office manager to a multi million dollar business in my early 20's. A week's worth of work was completed within 2 days as I witnessed the glamour from afar. Eventually, my employer asked if I wished to be a part of the fashion trade. I jumped at the chance, as I loved the people in the industry. I later became one of the top female commercial photographers in British Columbia as I had been published on billboards, bus shelters, magazine covers, editorials, cd covers and websites. I am aware of two awards, yet possibly have more. I am a perfectionist at heart and love bringing out the beauty in everyone I photograph.
I recently went back to school to complete another degree, this time in Education. My final practicum was with grades 4/5, the children were adorable.
A few months later, I was hired by Langara College.
I currently teach at Langara and SFU.
My students inspire me - thus far I've had past students win the following:
2 have won top 20 student photographers in Canada. 2013 and 2014.
1 has won top 20 commercial photographer in Canada. 2013 and 2014.
Another has won the Canon Canada Award. 2014
And I've had approximately 85% of my fashion students published in magazines.
Special thanks to Christina of Freshly Worn Magazine for working with me to ensure my students dreams become a reality!
